Dear CCC Family,
Have you joined the turkey contest by guessing the weight? Well, the winner is . . . Actually, the contest does not end until tonight, Friday night, at midnight so click here and make your guess. The winner will be announced tomorrow.
You can still bring your Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes this Sunday. But that is the absolute last chance as they will close the drop off centers on Monday.
It is always more fun to do things with others. If you have fulfilled the membership requirements and want to become a member of Community Christian Church, you can join with others who are doing it this coming Sunday.
See you Sunday!
PS Our building is close to being finished, but we are waiting on ConEd and the Department of Buildings. Ask God to speed them along.
Membership Sunday – November 24
If you want to be a member of Community Christian Church and have met all the requirements, join others who will become members this Sunday, November 24. You can do it any Sunday, but it is always easier to do it with others.
Christmas: Overlooked insights for a better life.
We know the Christmas story well. But our familiarity with the details often means we miss some of the best insights it reveals. Join us for this year’s Christmas series entitled “Christmas: Overlooked Insights for a Better Life” starting December 1. Your Christmas and life will be better if you do.
2019 Christmas Offering
Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus. In the midst of giving gifts to friends, family, and coworkers we want to be sure to give one to Jesus as well. Though the post office does not deliver to heaven, Jesus says that we can give to Him by giving to “the least of these.” The Christmas Offering is a year-end giving initiative that focuses on doing just that. This year the Christmas Offering will be used for disaster relief. Our news media has not highlighted it, but there have been devastating earthquakes on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Different organizations are helping with the relief including Harvest for Christ Foundation led by David Romulo. This year’s Christmas offer will be distributed by Harvest for Christ to people missed by other relief efforts and to rebuild church buildings damaged by the earthquakes. Mark your gifts for Christmas Offering 2019.
Christmas Open House Sunday – December 8
On Sunday, December 8, we are inviting the community to worship with us at 11:00 am at PS 96 and then stop by our building at 210 East 117th Street for an Open House from 12:30 to 2:00 pm. We are mailing an invitation postcard to homes in our community. Your additional gifts to cover the cost of the mailing would be appreciated. Indicate it is for the mailing.
Christmas Luncheon – December 15
CCC’s Christmas Potluck Luncheon, a favorite annual event, will be held on Sunday, December 15th after the morning service. All are invited to attend! Bring a friend. Come with your favorite dish to share. Since we might not have access to ovens, all hot foods must be already cooked and brought to fit in warming trays. Half pans will be available to take for hot foods and there will be a sign up sheet to let us know what you will bring. Help will be needed with set-up and cleanup, please see Jackie Coss if you will be available to do that or sign up on the sheet.
Angel Tree Project
You have committed to buying present for all the children we were given. Well done! No we need people to help with the Christmas Party for them on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, at our building at 210 East 117th Street. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or speak with Elba Rodriguez to help. Please bring you gifts no later than Sunday, December 8, or bring them with you to the party.
Adult Bible Fellowships
Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) provide Bible instruction, discussion, friendship, and prayer.
Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life. Does your life feel like it’s out of control? Perhaps you feel you have to say yes to everyone’s requests, especially if you are a Christian. Maybe you find yourself readily taking responsibility for others’ feelings and problems. Or perhaps you focus so much on being loving and unselfish that you’ve forgotten your own limits and limitations. Or maybe it’s all of the above. This study will help you learn when to say yes and know how to say no in order to take control of your life and set healthy, biblical boundaries with your spouse, children, friends, parents, co-workers, and even yourself. Led by Russell Kraft.
Life Lessons from the Book of Esther … studies on the providence of God, His perfect way, His perfect timing ‘for such a time as this.’ Led by Norma Lozada. (Not meeting November 24.)
Core Christianity: Finding Yourself In God’s Story. If you are a Christian, you likely pray, go to church, and read your Bible on a regular basis. Still, with all the busyness of life, you may not be exactly sure how your faith fits into everything you are doing each day. This study delves into the core truths of the Christian faith to equip you to more fully experience the joy God has for you in Jesus Christ and encourage you to have the confidence to share your faith with others. Led by Jon Dyke.
