Dear CCC Family,
It is beginning to sound a lot like Christmas. It is beginning to look like it too. We often focus on all the decorations we see and miss how we get to hear so much Christ honoring music. Of course, there are songs that miss the point of Christmas being the birth of Christ. Still, even those that do that remind us that this is a special time of the year, a most wonderful one. Check out everything that is happen to make it a wonderful time for you.
See you Sunday as we start the 2018 Christmas Series!
PS It has now been five months since we moved to PS 96. It is time to update you on what that has meant for us as a church family and let you know were we are at with reference to property. We will do that at a meeting next Sunday, December 9, after the service and before the Angel Tree Party.
2018 Christmas Offering
Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus. In the midst of giving gifts to friends, family, and coworkers we want to be sure to give one to Jesus as well. Though the post office does not deliver to heaven, Jesus says that we can give to Him by giving to “the least of these.” The Christmas Offering is a year-end giving initiative that focuses on doing just that. This year the Christmas Offering will be used to bring David Matasima, Salomon’s and Caroline’s son, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States to study at Lincoln Christian University to train for the ministry. (That is where Jeff and Laurie Butler went to college.) David has been award a grant that will cover his tuition, room, and board for four years. That is great! There are still incidental costs such as books and fees, as well as the cost of a passport, visa, and airfare. David is also going to need winter clothes when he arrives here. The 2018 Christmas Offering will get David here and settled so he can study for the ministry. That sounds like a great Christmas gift for Jesus.
Would you like a daily text message or email with a verse for that day to help you focus on Jesus during the Christmas season? If so, circle “T” at the bottom of your Communication Card and add your name and your mobile phone number or email address whichever you want to get the reminder at. Put the completed Communication Card in the offering bag.
2018 Christmas Series
Our 2018 Christmas series is “God with Us” starts this coming Sunday, December 2. It is designed to help us see that God is with us in every moment of our lives. He’s with us through the pain. He comforts us in the waiting. He gives us courage when we feel anxious. “God With Us” provides an inspirational reminder of the impact of Christ’s birth. There will be a free gift for everyone in attendance this Sunday.
I Can Only Imagine Movie – Friday, December 7
Discover the uplifting story about the power of forgiveness that is behind the record breaking song, “I Can Only Imagine” by watching the movie about it. It is free and will be shown Friday night, December 7, 7:00 pm at Public School 96 where we meet for worship. The movie is very well done and features famous actors and actresses. Invite people to attend with you. Watch the trailer by clicking here. Free tickets for you to share as an invitation are available on Sunday.
This Sunday, December 2, during Junior Church children will make Advent Wreath for their Christmas celebration! They will learn what advent means and create their own unique Advent Wreath. Don’t miss out and bring a friend!
CCC’s Christmas Potluck Luncheon, a favorite annual event, will be held on Sunday, December 16th after the morning service. All are invited to attend! Come with your favorite dish to share. Since we might not have access to ovens, all hot foods must be already cooked and brought to fit in warming trays. (Half pans are available to take for hot foods.) Please sign-up in the lobby. Help will be needed with set-up and cleanup, so please see Jackie Coss if you are available.
Angel Tree Project
We will have a party for the Angel Tree children and give them their presents on Sunday, December 9, at 1:30 pm. People have already volunteered to buy the presents. If you would like to help with the party, circle the “P” on your completed Communication Card or speak with Elba Rodriguez.
Informational Congregational Meeting
Next Sunday, December 9, there will be an informational meeting for the congregation to bring you up to date on issues relating to our move to Public School 96 and status of our property and negotiations.
Our congregation is spread out throughout the NY metro area, from Long Island to New Jersey and Westchester to Staten Island. Thus, severe winter weather hits us hard especially since the people who lead and set up travel a distance. If the National Weather Service issues winter storm warnings that include statements that travel will be hazardous, please call the church office or check the church website to make sure we are still holding services.
