Dear CCC Family,
I am excited that we have John and Heather Price visiting us the weekend of Sunday, June 23. John is a candidate for our associate minister position and a recent graduate of Cincinnati Christian University with a Masters of Divinity degree. You will learn more about John in the future. For now, plan to attend the service on June 23 and one of the two informal gatherings that weekend, Saturday or Sunday, to get to know John better. You can read about the gatherings below.
We have 30 people registered for The Vine Project Workshop on June 8. Most are from our church, but a few other churches as well. You can read about it below as well.
The Join the Team! Membership class will start on Sunday, June 2. You can read about it below. We will be moving the one day version of the class to July due to the associate minister candidate’s visit. Attending the class is a great way to learn about Community Christian Church, but it does not obligate one to become a member.
See you Sunday!
PS This Sunday we will be looked at 1 Peter 2:4-10. I am sure you will get more out of the message if you read the passage before you attend.
Associate Minister Candidate Visit
John Price, a candidate for our associate minister position, will be visiting CCC the weekend of Sunday, June 23rd. On Saturday, June 22nd, there will be continental breakfast at 9:30 am to meet him and get acquainted. There will be a similar gathering after the service and refreshments on Sunday, June 23rd. Choose one to attend. Circle the “S” at the bottom of your Communication Card and put it in the offering bag on Sunday or email email@example.com if you plan to attend on Saturday. We need a count for food.
Join the Team! Membership Class
The four session church membership class will be held on Sundays at 12:30 pm starting June 2. It is a great way to get to know Community Christian Church and attendance is necessary to become a member. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are postponing the one day version of the class due to the visit of the associate minister candidate.
Help with the French Service
We could use more people to greet for the French service. For more information, circle the “F” at the bottom of your completed Communication Card or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Vine Project
At Community Christian Church we strive to be a church that makes disciples of Jesus, people who are learning Christ. That is not easy. Learning Christ means we change our convictions and behavior to what Jesus wants from what we want. By nature, we resist that change and we would rather go to church to be told that we are perfect the way we are, to be made to feel good without changing and being becoming more like Christ. Being a disciple making church is hard so churches often adopt lesser goals like just getting more people to attend or keeping people happy whether they grow in Christ or not. That is often done without realizing it.
At CCC we are constantly looking for resources that will help us be a disciple making church rather settling for something less. The book, “The Vine Project,” is one such resources. It is not just a book, but a comprehensive guide to the why and how of shaping your church’s ministry culture around disciple making. It is not so much a program as it is a way of looking at your church and understanding what needs to be done to become an effective disciple making place.
To familiarize our church with the concepts of The Vine Project, we will be holding a one day workshop on Saturday, June 8, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at La Hermosa Christian Church, 5 West 110th Street in Manhattan. That is the church where Community Christian Church used to meet. It is a DVD based workshop where one of the authors of the book introduces the concepts. Everyone who attends Community Christian Church is welcome to attend the workshop for free. (We are charging people from other churches a small fee.)
If you plan to attend, let us know by Sunday, June 2, so we can order enough food for lunch, snacks, and workshop booklets. To register, circle the “V” at the bottom of your completed Communication Card or email email@example.com. Be sure to let us know how many will be attending with you.
