Dear CCC Family,
This Sunday, December 15, we will have our annual Christmas Potluck Lunch after the service. Come with your favorite dish to share. We won’t have access to ovens, so hot foods must be already cooked and brought to fit in warming trays. All are invited to attend! Bring a friend.
I seem to have forgotten to make a general announcement, but Luke, our youngest son, got engaged at the end of the summer to Brittany Johnson. They will get married on December 28 in Las Vegas where they live and met. Laurie and I will leave for the wedding on Friday, December 20. Our first stop will be in Memphis. We will then drive from there with our grandchildren and their parents to Las Vegas. We will be in Las Vegas for Christmas and the wedding, returning to New York on Friday, January 3. Your prayers for our travel, the wedding, and Luke and Brittany’s marriage are appreciated.
As 2019 draws to a close, people ask about giving and tax deductions. See the announcement below for the information you need about year end giving.
See you Sunday!
PS You can still help with the Angel Tree Party by showing up at our building at 210 East 117th Street at 1:00 pm. If you haven’t dropped your present off yet, you can do it then.
Candles and Carols Service – December 22
The service on Sunday December 22 will be different. We will start by taking the Lord’s Supper and then have our Candles and Carols service in which we read the Christmas story interspersed with Christmas carols and the lighting of candles. It is a special service that the family can enjoy together so there will not be classes for children or childcare that Sunday. It is also a good Sunday to invite a guest to attend. Spanish translation will not be available.
2019 Christmas Offering
Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus. In the midst of giving gifts to friends, family, and coworkers we want to be sure to give one to Jesus as well. Though the post office does not deliver to heaven, Jesus says that we can give to Him by giving to “the least of these.” The Christmas Offering is a year-end giving initiative that focuses on doing just that. This year the Christmas Offering will be used for disaster relief. Our news media has not highlighted it, but there have been devastating earthquakes on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Different organizations are helping with the relief including Harvest for Christ Foundation led by David Romulo. This year’s Christmas offer will be distributed by Harvest for Christ to people missed by other relief efforts and to rebuild church buildings damaged by the earthquakes. Mark your gifts for Christmas Offering 2019.
Year End Giving
A reminder that for financial gifts to be tax deductible in 2019, they must be given by December 31, 2019. Your gift can be given in the regular offering, in person at the church office, digitally, or mailed & postmarked on or before December 31, 2019. The church will provide giving statements in January
Snow and Winter Weather
Our congregation is spread out throughout the NY metro area, from Long Island to New Jersey and Westchester to Staten Island. Thus, severe winter weather hits us hard especially since the people who lead and set up travel a distance. If the National Weather Service issues winter storm warnings that include statements that travel will be hazardous, please call the church office or check the church website to make sure we are still holding services.
Adult Bible Fellowships
Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) provide Bible instruction, discussion, friendship, and prayer. The ABFs will be taking a break until January.
