Good Ending. Great Beginning.

Good Ending. Great Beginning.

Dear CCC Family,

Last Sunday was good one! It was great to have David Matasima with us and have Salomon and Caroline share in the service. It was also our best Candles and Carols service ever. Tariq’s rendition of “Joy to the World” to close the service was exceptional.

Laurie and I will be away this coming Sunday visiting family in the Midwest. Alex Lozada will be our guest speaker. He is on the staff of Mountain Christian Church in Joppa, Maryland, and the son of Norma and Angel Lozada and Geline Lozada’s brother.

We will be back on January 6 to start the very important “What Matters” series and to teach the Join the Team! class at 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. Be sure to read about the class and all the information about Revitalization below.

2018 was a rocky year for Community Christian Church. We are bringing it to a good ending and get read for a great beginning to 2019. Don’t miss it.

See you in two weeks!

Join the Team!  – The New Membership Class
Changes in our culture and country mean that it is important for churches to clearly teach what they believe and practice. CCC will do this by offering the Join the Team! membership class. More details can be found on the back of this program. It will start Sunday, January 6.

2018 Christmas Offering
Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus. In the midst of giving gifts to friends, family, and coworkers we want to be sure to give one to Jesus as well. Though the post office does not deliver to heaven, Jesus says that we can give to Him by giving to “the least of these.” The Christmas Offering is a year-end giving initiative that focuses on doing just that. This year the Christmas Offering will be used to bring David Matasima, Salomon’s and Caroline’s son, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States to study at Lincoln Christian University to train for the ministry and to be safe from the violence in the Congo. David has been award a grant that will cover his tuition, room, and board for four years. That is great! There are still incidental costs such as books and fees, as well as the cost of a passport, visa, and airfare. David is also going to need winter clothes when he arrives here. The 2018 Christmas Offering will get David here and settled so he can study for the ministry. That sounds like a great Christmas gift for Jesus.

Year End Giving
A reminder that for financial gifts to be tax deductible in 2018, they must be given by December 31, 2018. Your gift can be given in the regular offering, in person at the church office, digitally, or mailed & postmarked on or before Dec 31, 2018.

Revitalize 2019
2018 was quite a year for Community Christian Church. It started with selling and purchasing property. We had a successful giving campaign in which our goal was surpassed. Then, unexpectedly, we had to move from our home of  the past five years. God has been faithful, but it has been exhausting and has taken time and energy that were needed elsewhere. We need some renewal and revitalization and that will be the theme for the 2019. Below is part of how we will do that.

Focus on “What Matters”
Of course, we won’t be able to deal with everything that matters. We will look at several important topics that matter deeply for our personal spiritual life and that of our church.  We will launch the series on January 6 with “God matters.”

Upgrade church membership
Times have changed and we cannot assume people still understand things the same. Our church situation has changed and we need to do things differently. Although God’s Word does not change, how we apply it does.  With that in mind, the elders are proposing some changes. 1) CCC will adopt a statement of faith. 2) To be a member, one needs to agree with and accept the statement of faith. 3) Attending a membership class that explains that statement will become a requirement to be a member at CCC. The church bylaws will be amended to reflect that and the changes will be voted on at the annual congregational meeting on February 10th.

Join the Team, membership class
To make it easier for people to attend the membership class, it will be offered both before and after the worship service starting Sunday, January 6. There are 5 sessions. You are encouraged to attend all of them in person. However, they will be recorded, so if you miss some you can listen to them. The class before the service will start at 9:30 am and the one after will be at 12:30 pm. This will be the only Adult Bible Fellowship offered at the start of the year.

Revitalization Task Force
CCC has had many good years and our best years are ahead. To make sure we accomplish all God has for us, we are putting together a Revitalization Task Force. The RTF will guide us in making improvements to our church. If you are interested in being on the RTF, circle the “R” at the bottom of your Communication Card and place it in the offering bag.

Volunteer and Leader Training
Some volunteer and some lead. All need training and VALT will provide that. This is especially important as we raise up future leaders and elders. Watch for details in 2019.
