Vocalist and composer Tariq Al-Sabir has been described as a “boundless talent” by Baltimore’s City Hall and The Examiner dubbed him “a rising musical mastermind”. A Baltimore native who got his start as a lead voice on the 2006 theme song of HBO’s ‘The Wire’, is now an esteemed alumnus of The Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, and frequently engaged in NYC where he is now based. From scoring film, to premiering several roles this year, Tariq’s abilities remain unrestricted while he displays expertise and experience at each performance. In 2017 he made his debut performing original works at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, Lincoln Center, National Sawdust and performed at MoMA with the Lone Wolf Recital Corps. Tariq was recently announced as a 2018 SUITE/Space Artist with the legendary Mabou Mines Theater Company, and will be premiering his theatrical-multimedia song cycle UNWANTED in their new theater at 122CC in 2018. Tariq is currently playing the roles of Richard Moss and Travis Douglass in Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower An opera by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon.
