Dear CCC Family,
You did it! You more than met our goal of 75 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. In fact, you set a new record without a packing party. You gave 109 well filled shoeboxes. Well done!
More good news! Five more people become new members of Community Christian Church last Sunday. We will have another membership class in January.
Oops! Now for some not so good news. Construction delays means we will have to postpone the Open House at 210 East 117th Street until the new year. Too many details to describe why. My bad. I should have waited until it was all done before scheduling anything.
Back to the positive side, the Christmas series starts this Sunday. It is called “Christmas: Overlooked Insights for a Better Life.” The children will also be making Advent Wreaths this Sunday to use at home during the Christmas Season.
See you Sunday!
Christmas: Overlooked insights for a better life.
We know the Christmas story well. But our familiarity with the details often means we miss some of the best insights it reveals. Join us for this year’s Christmas series entitled “Christmas: Overlooked Insights for a Better Life” starting this Sunday, December 1. Your Christmas and life will be better if you do.
2019 Christmas Offering
Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus. In the midst of giving gifts to friends, family, and coworkers we want to be sure to give one to Jesus as well. Though the post office does not deliver to heaven, Jesus says that we can give to Him by giving to “the least of these.” The Christmas Offering is a year-end giving initiative that focuses on doing just that. This year the Christmas Offering will be used for disaster relief. Our news media has not highlighted it, but there have been devastating earthquakes on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Different organizations are helping with the relief including Harvest for Christ Foundation led by David Romulo. This year’s Christmas offer will be distributed by Harvest for Christ to people missed by other relief efforts and to rebuild church buildings damaged by the earthquakes. Mark your gifts for Christmas Offering 2019.
Christmas Luncheon – December 15
CCC’s Christmas Potluck Luncheon, a favorite annual event, will be held on Sunday, December 15th after the morning service. All are invited to attend! Bring a friend. Come with your favorite dish to share. Since we might not have access to ovens, all hot foods must be already cooked and brought to fit in warming trays. Half pans will be available to take for your hot foods and there will be a sign up sheet to let us know what you will bring. Help will be needed with set-up and cleanup, please see Jackie Coss if you will be available to do that or sign up on the sheet.
Angel Tree Project Party
You have committed to buying present for all the children we were given. Well done! Now we need people to help with the Christmas Party for them on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, at our building at 210 East 117th Street. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or speak with Elba Rodriguez to help. Please bring you gifts no later than Sunday, December 8, or bring them with you to the party.
Snow and Winter Weather
Our congregation is spread out throughout the NY metro area, from Long Island to New Jersey and Westchester to Staten Island. Thus, severe winter weather hits us hard especially since the people who lead and set up travel a distance. If the National Weather Service issues winter storm warnings that include statements that travel will be hazardous, please call the church office or check the church website to make sure we are still holding services.
Adult Bible Fellowships
Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) provide Bible instruction, discussion, friendship, and prayer.
Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life. Does your life feel like it’s out of control? Perhaps you feel you have to say yes to everyone’s requests, especially if you are a Christian. Maybe you find yourself readily taking responsibility for others’ feelings and problems. Or perhaps you focus so much on being loving and unselfish that you’ve forgotten your own limits and limitations. Or maybe it’s all of the above. This study will help you learn when to say yes and know how to say no in order to take control of your life and set healthy, biblical boundaries with your spouse, children, friends, parents, co-workers, and even yourself. Led by Russell Kraft. (Not meeting December 1.)
Life Lessons from the Book of Esther … studies on the providence of God, His perfect way, His perfect timing ‘for such a time as this.’ Led by Norma Lozada.
Core Christianity: Finding Yourself In God’s Story. If you are a Christian, you likely pray, go to church, and read your Bible on a regular basis. Still, with all the busyness of life, you may not be exactly sure how your faith fits into everything you are doing each day. This study delves into the core truths of the Christian faith to equip you to more fully experience the joy God has for you in Jesus Christ and encourage you to have the confidence to share your faith with others. Led by Jon Dyke. (Not meeting December 1.)
