How to have a better life
True contentment comes from trusting in Christ and not depending upon our circumstances to bring joy.
In Philippians 4:2-9, there was conflict among two women. Paul pleaded with them to have unity in Christ. They are referred to as “co-workers”. There are four ways to be peace of mind: rejoice, relax, release, and reflect. We can have peace even when circumstances are going wrong.
Godly dissatisfaction, determination, direction, discipline, and destination are needed for a better life. We must stand firm in the Lord.
This message focuses on Philippians 3:1-9. During Paul’s day, people were told that they needed to keep the Jewish law in addition to believing in Jesus. They placed the law above all else. Today, we still wrestle with the same issues. Whenever we say Jesus plus something else, the “something else” gets magnified. What we need to do is replace our confidence in the world with faith in Christ.
Philippians 2:12-18 illustrates that a better life comes as a result of obedience. Our obedience shows that we trust God. We “work out” our salvation by obeying Him. God gives us the strength to follow Him and he wants us to do so out of an attitude of love. Through obedience, we fully become who we already are: Children of God. And we also accomplish God’s purpose.
Philippians 2:1-22 explains that unity is important to God and His people. God wants us to have a harmonious relationship with him. However, there are many causes of disunity including Satan, selfishness, and ignorance. God has a restoration plan to unite His people back to Him.
Paul understood that to live for Christ is the best possible life. Philippians Chapter 1:20-21 states: “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
The Bible is a collection of a literature given to us by God so that we can have a life-changing relationship with Him. The Book of Philippians is a letter in the Bible that Paul wrote to a church in Philippi. While in prison, Paul wrote it to express thanks and to encourage them to be filled with joy. It’s a good letter to evaluate if we want to have a better life.
Jesus is alive. He is alive so that we can have a better life, both eternally and today.
