Sermons by Jeff Butler (Page 25)
We are running a marathon to maturity in becoming more like Christ. To do this, we must simplify our lives, be patient as God works on us, run with others, and take every step with purpose.
Your second purpose of life is to be part of God’s family in the church. In God’s family, you learn your true identity, are supported by others, are protected and cared for, and your life becomes productive.
You were planned for God’ pleasure. The reason you’re alive is God wanted to love you. Your first calling is to enjoy a relationship with God.
Our calling is a gift from God. We are called for God’s purpose, not our own. Our sins don’t change our calling, for it is permanent. God empowers us and will reward us for living our out calling.
Life is too precious to waste. You won’t waste your life if you give your whole life to God, discipline yourself, and stay motivated by the love of God.
What happens to you is not as important as the decisions you make. We have a choice. We should choose to live by God’s standards, not the world’s.
Our God is a going God – he goes looking for his lost children. God has a mission to restore all of creation so that it will be redeemed and renewed to the praise and glory of God.
Other people are crucial to our coming, becoming, and going.
As disciples, we should become like Jesus. Becoming like Jesus means always doing what pleases God. We should love God and understand who he is. We must have a plan to move from casual Christians to intentional followers.
We come to Jesus to remove guilt (which leads to forgiveness) and to remove shame (which leads to healing).
