From Mess to Masterpiece: Purpose

From Mess to Masterpiece: Purpose

We have to live with purpose if we want to go from mess to masterpiece. Lack of purpose is why people are stuck in the mess of their lives. The right purpose, not the right circumstances is the key to moving from mess to masterpiece.

In Philippians 1:12, the mess Paul was in helped him to advance the gospel. He had a purpose and he took the circumstances and turned them into a masterpiece. The change of perspective, not circumstance, was essential.

The right big picture purpose is essential to moving from mess to masterpiece. Life’s highest purpose is to know Christ. John 17:3 states:

Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Philippians 3:10a states:

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings.

Only God can fulfill our innermost desires. We were created for a relationship with Christ and only He will satisfy the soul. Augustine states:

You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.

John 6:35 states:

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

The worst circumstances seem to be where people get to know Christ best. But sometimes people move farther away from God. Psalm 34:18 states:

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Focusing on knowing Christ is the key to get out of the mess. Matthew 6:33 states:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Almost always people need real-life illustrations and words to know Christ. As Christians, we need to make Christ known by speaking and sharing the message. See Romans 10:17.

Matthew 5:16 states:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Good = Attractive. Let others see your attractive deeds and life and glorify your Father in heaven.

Messes become masterpieces when used to make Christ known. You make Christ known best in the mess.
