Dear CCC Family,
William Gomez will be leading the music for us starting this Sunday. Many of you already know and like William. He will also be translating the message into Spanish for us.
This Sunday is Mother’s Day. Although that won’t be the focus of our gathering, we will do some extra things to honor mothers. We will continue the series of messages on 1 Peter. Still, it will be a good day to invite any mothers you know. Of course, any Sunday is a good day to invite someone whether they are a mother or not.
The Vine Project announcement found below is a long, but important one. If you haven’t done so already, please take the time to read it.
See you Sunday!
Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 12. Although there won’t be a Mother’s Day message, there will be some elements in the service that honor mothers.
Spanish Translation Resumes May 12
We will once again offer a simultaneous Spanish translation of the message through wireless receivers during the 11 am service starting this Sunday. William Gomez will be leading the singing so he won’t be able to translate the entire service. However, I know some of you could help translate. If you would like to help with the Spanish translation by translating or setting up the equipment, circle the “S” at the bottom of your complete Communication Card on Sunday or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will be having baptisms soon. If you are interested in being baptized or have questions about being baptized, circle the “B” at the bottom of your completed Communication Card on Sunday or email office@cccnyc. org.
Join the Team! Membership Class New Date
The four session church membership class will be held on Sundays at 12:30 pm starting June 2. It is a great way to get to know Community Christian Church and attendance is necessary to become a member. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will also be doing a one day version of the class on Saturday, June 22, from 9:00 to 12:30.
The Vine Project
At Community Christian Church we strive to be a a church that makes disciples of Jesus, people who are learning Christ. That is not easy. Learning Christ means we change our convictions and behavior to what Jesus wants from what we want. By nature, we resist that changed and we would rather go to church to be told that we are perfect the way we are, to be made to feel good without changing and being becoming more like Christ. Being a disciple making church is hard so churches often adopt lesser goals like just getting more people to attend or keeping people happy whether they grow in Christ or not. That is often done without realizing it.
At CCC we are constantly looking for resources that will help us be a disciple making church rather settling for something less. The book, “The Vine Project,” is one such resources. It is not just a book, but a comprehensive guide to the why and how of shaping your church’s ministry culture around disciple making. It is not so much a program as it is a way of looking at your church and understanding what needs to be done to become an effective disciple making place.
To familiarize our church with the concepts of The Vine Project, we will be holding a one day workshop on Saturday, June 8, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at La Hermosa Christian Church, 5 West 110th Street in Manhattan. That is the church where Community Christian Church used to meet. It is a DVD based workshop where one of the authors of the book introduces the concepts. Everyone who attends Community Christian Church is welcome to attend the workshop for free. (We are charging people from other churches a small fee.)
If you plan to attend, let us know by Sunday, June 2, so we can order enough food for lunch, snacks, and workshop booklets. To register, circle the “V” at the bottom of your completed Communication Card or email email@example.com. Be sure to let us know how many will be attending with you.
